Year 8 and 9 Mathematics, Science and Technology

Rotation 2, Term 1.

The aim this term is to learn Science through laboratory experiences.   Generally, each week about 60% of class time will be spent doing experiments or work related to experiments.   There are a variety of activities: some will take a whole block, some can be done in a lesson and others will take a whole week.   Complete instructions will be given in the first few weeks, by week 8 students will be able to write introductions, research questions and method.   By week 10 it is expected that students will be able to plan and design an experiment, complete the laboratory work independently and finally write a complete scientific report themselves.   Check Assessment for those experiments that will be graded.

It is important that Science Reports are handed in on the due date.
For details on how to complete a Science Report click on the sciencereportcriteria below.
Science reports on Changing the Boiling Point of Water; Looking for Similarities; The Effect of Temperature on a Reaction and Altering the Reactants to change the rate of reaction; and Testing pH all count toward the final result.

If you are looking for ideas for Testing pH the PowerPoint on Acids and Bases and the Adobe Document on pH may be places to start.  Remember to individualise your experiment.
